Leading researchers Dr.paed. Sanita Baranova and Dr.paed. Svetlana Surikova from the Scientific Institute of Pedagogy at the Faculty of Education Sciences and Psychology of the University of Latvia (UL), are involved in the ERASMUS+ KA2 strategic partnership project „REMAP: Reading for Meaning and Purpose".

Practising purposeful reading helps students discover meaning and purpose in life, enhancing their intellectual and emotional resilience while addressing their social and civic needs. The REMAP project's goal is to provide educational resources for university lecturers and secondary school teachers to engage their students in meaningful reading practices.

REMAP will contribute to developing a more inclusive educational environment by designing, developing, testing, and evaluating innovative and inclusive resources for purposeful reading practices in higher education. Project activities, involving four European higher education institutions, one secondary school, and associated partners, will research and promote evidence-based purposeful reading practices at the university level.

REMAP will provide: 1) An open-access Meaningful Reading Manual with modules on conceptualisation, reading techniques and dialogical practices, student validated suggestions of texts; 2) A peer-mentor service-learning program provided by upper-level university students: Reading Mentors Programme; 3) Validated course on Meaningful Reading where students will acquire intellectual reading skills and passion for reading; 4) Validated Teacher Training Program for lecturers to offer general courses where meaningful reading is promoted.

These outcomes aim to foster lifelong reading habits and disseminate good practices in purposeful reading.
