Project 5.2.7 "Involvement of the society in social innovation for providing sustainable development of Latvia" is conducted within the National Research Program “Economic Transformation, Smart Growth, Governance and Legal Framework for the State and Society for Sustainable Development ‒ a New Approach to the Creation of a Sustainable Learning Community (EKOSOC-LV)” (2014-2017).

Project's 5.2.7 leaders: Associate professor and senior researcher at the Faculty of Engineering Economics and Management of Riga Technical University, Dr.paed. Karine Oganisjana and professor at Riga Stradiņš University, Dr.oec. Inna Dovladbekova.
Project's 5.2.7 goal: Elaboration of a model of social innovation for: promoting economic democracy; developing social and human capital; improving collaboration among state institutions, enterprises and the Latvian population in order to solve social problems and motivate to get self-organised and actively participate in social innovation processes strengthening society’s securitability and ensuring its sustainable development.
Project's 5.2.7 objectives:
- to explore the present forms of social innovation and the performance indicators of social innovation processes in Latvia and Europe in order to create an appropriate platform for the elaboration of a contemporary model of social innovation in Latvia;
- to investigate the interaction of economic democracy, human capital and social capital and their impact on topical issues of society concerning education, social involvement, processes of innovation, and development of public institutions in Latvia;
- to research the factors which affect the involvement of the society in social innovation processes in Latvia and determine the prerequisites for ensuring social innovation both at individual and group level;
- to elaborate a network model of collaboration of state institutions, enterprises and inhabitants for developing social innovation in Latvia;
- to work out recommendations to state policy makers and company owners for providing the understanding of the issues connected with employee financial participation systems, social capital and social involvement for developing social innovation in Latvia;
- to elaborate recommendations for the introduction of employee financial participation system at the methodology and method level, as well as to develop the theoretical concept of human capital and social capital interaction and conduct its approbation in Latvia;
- to elaborate teaching and learning methodology and materials aimed at the development of social innovation, openness to novelty, interdisciplinary creative thinking and active involvement in the solution of social problems in Latvia.
The Project consists of two scopes of research concerning:
1) the interdisciplinary (economic, management and education) perspective of the development of social innovation processes in Latvia with the active involvement of different parties (state institutions, enterprises, NGOs and individuals); the research is led by Karine Oganisjana with the participation of researchers from Riga Technical University, Latvia University of Agriculture, University of Latvia and Riga Stradiņš University;
2) the employees’ financial participation systems, social capital and social involvement for developing social innovation in Latvia; the research is led by Inna Dovladbekova with the participation of researchers from Riga Stradiņš University and University of Latvia.
By the end of the project the findings of the two scopes of research will be integrated to make the holistic mechanism of promotion of social innovation in Latvia.
